Puerto Madryn was an excellent location to visit the desolute, but beautiful nature reserve of Peninsula Valdes. We had the pleasure of seeing sea lions, elephant seals and penguins in their naturaal environment. A visit to the largest penguin colony outside the Antarctic at Punta Tombo was a must, although the Welsh town of Gaiman was a little dissappointing.
We then boarded a bus for a 14 hour trip to Rio Gallegos, where we had planned to take a bus onwards to Ushuaia, unfortunately we discovered that the next bus was in 3 days time. We decided to take the plane to Ushuaia, Argentina's most southerly town, rather than spend 3 days in the quiet town of Rio Gallego.
